Poverty of Podunk Spokane, WA made them disillusioned intellectuals. Through their struggles, we find delicate beauty, insightful growth, soulful passion, and strong character.

[NAME]
“Rarefied Heir” is a play on words.
“Rarefied air” is thin air at high altitudes. Rarefied means: less dense, esoteric, very high, elite. Then, of course an “heir” being someone who receives a prized endowment, rank, or title. Pretentious aristocracy.

“Why the shell?”
Our former name was 2012 Recordings, inspired by the Mayan apocalypse prophecies. In classic Mayan art, conchs are shown being utilized in many ways including as paint and ink holders for elite scribes, as musical instruments like bugles, and as hand weapons. The spiral of the shell suggests the golden ratio, which is sacred geometry in occult spirituality. Additionally, we are representing Seattle, and wanted a nautical theme. The shell no longer coincides with the name, but our influences haven’t changed, so it stuck.
